The opening ceremony of NTU EMBA Orientation was formally unveiled to familiarize the freshmen of NTU-Fudan class, Taipei and Fudan class with   EMBA learning characteristics and their classmates for building a good relationship among one another. College of Management, NTU organized a three-day O’Camp for students of both sides in four classes from Feb. 24^th through Feb. 26^th .

Vice President and CFO of NTU Li, Shu-Hsing, on behalf of NTU, welcomed the join of freshmen and said, “NTU provides the best learning platform and professional sports link where so long as students need to work hard in this treasure mountain, you are guaranteed with great growth and harvest. Keeping going till achieve the goal without afraid of working hard and tiredness is the best spirit of NTU EMBA.

Dean of College of Management, NTU, Guo, Ruey-Shan demonstrated that professional and artistic aspects co-exist in management; in fact, the universality of management is everywhere in our daily life. Taking advantaging of an image game, Dean, Guo, Ruey-Shan let students to understand that there’s a learning inertia where experiences form an inertial thinking which influences the judgment made by our brain. Most of the time, we have no idea what we have because something hides in the subconscious mind; consequently, drawing them into awareness is the key to exploit the potentiality when needed. The effect can’t be underestimated that discovering what used to be not known but, in fact, subconsciously known by yourself. Management programs won’t be the most unforgettable learning chances, unless it helps you reflecting on and understanding those experiences you had in the past. If this objective can be achieved, you’ll be capable of handling tough issues, encountering in the further with experiences and reflection, a knowledge which won’t fade away.

Department of Physics, NTU and Deputy Vice President for International Affairs, Prof. Jiun-Huei Proty Wu, Ph.D was especially invited as a host speaker for a human culture lecture with the topic, “Universe Management” and he encouraged students to have a dream and fulfill the dream with persistence.

In a human culture lecture with the topic, “Universe Management”, Department of Physics, NTU and Deputy Vice President for International Affairs, Prof. Jiun-Huei Proty Wu, Ph.D told the students “what is a dream? A dream is the thing without any reason to make you happy anyway! With the personal experiences in failure and success, Prof. Jiun-Huei Proty Wu shared “Persistence makes dream come true.” At the age of 14, Prof. Jiun-Huei Proty Wu, interested in math and physics, regarded the famous British physicist, Stephen William Hawking as his idol; during schooling, Prof. Jiun-Huei Proty Wu maintained the enthusiasm toward physics and astronomy and    finally got a hard-earned opportunity to meet with Hawking and take a cherished picture with his idol. 

Talking lively and jovially, Prof. Jiun-Huei Proty Wu introduced the art of getting along with the world to the students to explore the boundless universe; he also explained profound Chinese and western theories in simple terms, ranging from the evolution of the universe to the 64 hexagram of Yi Ching. Prof. Jiun-Huei Proty Wu’s Fluent eloquence and humorous perspectives triggered laughter and applause a lot.   

Apart from academic research, Prof. Jiun-Huei Proty Wu actively devotes to promote physics and astronomy at schools in remote countries, educating elementary students to observe the astronomy and astrology by using a self-made telescope made of water pipes. He saw himself as in the childhood, reflected on these elementary school students who believe in Chang'e living in the Moon. Prof. Jiun-Huei Proty Wu said that let the Creator manage the world at its own value and put self’s energy to create a new value. Moreover, he urged the students to retrieve the past and relieve the present, making an achievement of unlimited possibilities with perseverance. Instead of waiting for the appearance of your hero, determine to become a hero of others, helping people to fulfill their dreams and achieve countless dreams and gain great happiness.

After the end of human culture lecture, the group courses of O’Camp was on the show and CEO of College of Management, EMBA, Dr. Hsieh, Ming-Huei briefly described the meaning of O’Camp before the departure to have the freshmen adjust their attitude and start afresh with an open mind for accepting different people and things. The attended students and teachers took 7 sightseeing buses in total, offered by the school sister with NTU-Fudan 7^th class, Chen, Yi-Xuan，and made a trip to Mabu Ville, Beipu Township in Hsinchu.

 
The group courses routinely broke the class boundary where students were divided into 16 groups this year. For the first night, CEO of College of Management, EMBA, Dr. Hsieh, Ming-Huei introduce NTU EMBA program structure and the learning spirit: “Concentration, Sharing,

Collaboration and Convergence”, followed by a discussion on group names among each group within a limited time and production of team flags based on the NTU EMBA spirit. On the next day, each group gave a team introduction by slogan or performance in 60 seconds for which a jury formed by the teachers evaluated with scores. At last, the 16^th group, “Ying-MBA”won the champion.

Assistant Professor, Department of Athletics, NTU, Su, Mei-Yin led the course, “Static and dynamic balance”

Next morning, Assistant Professor, Department of Athletics, NTU, Su, Mei-Yin with expertise in physical fitness, yoga and judo techniques arranged a “Static and dynamic balance” course, tailored for a wide range of EMBA students. This course comprised limb exercises of dynamic warm-up and static stretch against the soft music to teach students how to let the breath flow and calm the mood down by listening to their bodies. Because health is the cornerstone of success, aside from lecturing on professional management knowledge, NTU EMBA highly values students’ development of body, mind and soul!

The students enthusiastically participated activities with observance and reflection.

Next, various group courses, such as“Pass to the future”, “Chariots of Fire” and “Ma Dao Cheng Gong” were held to test the freshmen in the 16 groups from different fields and backgrounds to conquer the difficulty under the tension of time to challenge their wisdom, physical fitness, communication ability and adaptability to changes. At the end of each mission, students shared their thoughts and feedback immediately on how to think, find a solution to a question and reach the goal effectively.

Finally, the 3^rd group “3Q” won the top prize while the 4^th group “The Lion King” was awarded with the best prize and group 13, “Bling-bling” won outstanding award; there are 5 groups with the excellent award: Group 10, “AceTen, Group 11, “一一”, Group 14, “Warriors of E-generation”, Group 15, “Fire E”and Group 16,  “Ying-MBA”.

In this excited and pleasant, students from the four classes showed their talents, competed for team honor and  abided by disciplines; meanwhile, they worked as competitors and partners who were willing to learn from one another by accepting others' distinguished performance without hesitation to give an affirmative applause to others.

During the meditation and sharing activity, each group member reviewed their own “voice inside”, “things they want to do” and “the self they want to be”.

After that, CEO of College of Management, EMBA, Dr. Hsieh, Ming-Huei gave a lecture on “Happy NTU People” and expressed that no matter what reason brought you to study at EMBA, she was certain of one thing that is “a change”. In other words, after retaining the identity as a student, time allocation and the center of life should face a big change and challenge; nevertheless, rather than competing with others, you owned the DNA of NTU EMBA and should keep the original intention with courage and modest attitude to conquer the challenge. 


At the end of this event, the students set up their own goal and expectations by composing a letter to self 3 years later. Under the witness of teachers, they sealed the letter in a treasure bottle which would be open on the graduation ceremony 3 years later. The three-day O’Camp earned students’ great feedbacks filled with moving moments; they understood the cares and arrangement offered by the EMBA office along with the purpose and meaning of O’ Camp. Students of NTU EMBA form a big family with humble spirit and grand courage by supporting each other to face the change and the future. 
The three-day O’Camp ended in a blink, the students packed their belongings with abundant reflection to hit the road back home. In the future, they can’t wait but create their own colorful lives on the platform of EMBA.
