How to transform public healthcare through health and medical research cooperation of France and Taiwan

What you didn’t know about France beyond its beauty

If you look closely, our daily lives as Taiwanese are very much interconnected with France. The grocery giant, Carrefour, can meet all your daily needs, the sporting goods store, Decathlon, is a one-stop-shop for sports equipment, both of which are French companies. And not to mention the country's internationally-renowned cuisine, wine, arts, and culture.

Among all the European countries, France is Taiwan’s closest scientific partner. Taiwans Ministry of Technology and France’s technology and research institutions collaboratively fund several tens of cross-country projects each year across various industries and have trained many scientists in the process.

Taiwan’s Show Chwan Health Care System has been collaborating with France’s Research Institute against Digestive Cancer and European Institute of Tele-Surgery (IRCAD) for a decade now. Last year, a 10th anniversary event was held in celebration of the co-established institute in Taiwan, the Asian Institute of TeleSurgery, and for ushering a new era in Taiwan-France medical collaboration.

To further NTU’s student and staff members understanding of France’s developments in health, medicine and technology and increase exchange in talents and technology between Taiwan and France, the International College Provisional Office will be hosting a lecture event on Oct. 7, 2019, at 10:30 AM. The new director of the French Office in Taipei, Director M. Casabonne-Masonnave will be sharing topics on cooperative strengths between France and Taiwan and the latest research developments in health and medical research in France.

He will also discuss how Taiwan and France together overcome barriers through modern technology, artificial intelligence and international collaboration among the science community and further advance societal health through preventive medicine. Together, let us see beyond France’s beauty and see it’s true strengths.

France is not only Taiwan’s biggest partner in Europe, but its also one of Taiwan’s largest partners in the world in science-related collaborations. But not only in science: Taiwan and France collaborate closely in trade, technology, culture, education, and environmental conservation and ever more Taiwanese students are choosing France for education and training (over 1200 each year).

Currently, France is working to innovate in genomic medicine, big data and also working on cross-field issues such as aging society, microorganism, and genetics. Through this lecture, students and staff members can further their understanding of recent developments in medicine and technology in France and Taiwan. We hope this opportunity can spark more collaboration opportunities and deepen the relationship between Taiwan and France.
