Author/Administration Affairs

This late spring, the NTU management department had the great privilege of having professor Jiuh-Biing Sheu giving an acceptance speech for his third ORA (outstanding research award)  given by the Ministry of Science and Technology. Professor Sheu lives by his maxim of “Life is research, research is life”, and therefore lives in full enthusiasm by enjoying his research and the splendid results that he obtains from it. Professor Sheu is also the lead editor of an international periodical, to which his contributions to academia is seen worldwide. He hopes to have sustainable development as his long term goal.

According to Professor Jiuh, life is full of choices, including the different types of research we can chose in our lives, keeping in mind that we do not have to skip on sleep or food when doing this research. Professor Jiuh continues that research life can be very normal, as he uses time management to do his research in order to give himself the opportunity to spend time with family, to share meals and watch his kids grow up. Even more surprisingly, Professor Jiuh finds the time to always tell bed time stories to his children. Professor Jiuh really breaks the stereotype of the association of doing research to solitary hard work. Not only can Professor Jiuh do good quality research, but he can also balance it with a family-oriented, happy life.

Prior to finishing our interview with Professor Jiuh, he states that students can develop their own talents and make their own milestones in an industry. He also advocates sustainable development to me a long term goal in helping to create a good teaching and research environment. Through aspirations such as this, we hope to compete with renowned universities and leave our mark on the global stage.
