On December 19th 2014, Hung-Tze Jan, the Chairman of PChome Online Inc, gave us a speech titled "The Next Trillion-Dollar Industry - Opportunities in E-Commerce and Internet of Things." at Sun Yun-Hsuan Management Forum. With his solid experience, he analyzed the characteristics and the development of Taiwan's E-Commerce Industry.

This speech was so popular that it attracted a wide range of audiences. Mr. Jan is not only the chairman of PChome Inc. but also the founder of Cite Publishing House and PChome Publication Group.

First he introduced how Internet changed our life." Internet increased life convenience. From communication, shopping, to financial planning, everything was gradually becoming web based."

"Online shopping realized the Long Tail Theory. Lower threshold raised the entrepreneurial wave in Taiwan. Meanwhile, niche products survived more easily due to the expansion of access, those increased the diversity of products, and consumers had more choices."

"The rise of internet banking was also the key factor of the growing business opportunities on web."

"Besides being an independent industry, internet is changing the look of many others; some industries have become web based, trying to be the first-mover in a brand new industry."

"The connections between the internet and the ability to handle logistics are also important elements on managing web related industries. For example, online shopping gradually replaced the traditional mode of shopping, i.e., customers can get products they'd ordered online just in few hours without going out.

"Over the past decade, the Internet has been evolving so rapidly and dramatically- from simple web browsing at the beginning to an online industry nowadays. The unlimited opportunities on the Internet attracted many entrepreneurs for sure; however, if government was not able to catch up with the latest trend, the lack of flexibility may nip countless innovations in the bud."

Mr. Jan concluded that in the era of Internet of Things, the interconnections between devices and their backend web platforms will provide service by themselves, including data analysis and forecasting to people. "Our life will be even more efficient in this era and the user-interface will become simpler and more convenient. As always, new technology stimulates new demand. The Internet of Things is not the end of Internet industry; instead, it gives us a whole new dimension of imagination for an exciting new world."
