On March 19, 2026, the Global MBA program at National Taiwan University organized a field visit to the 2026 Smart City Summit & Expo (SCSE 2026), held at the Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center (TaiNEX 2). The visit was part of the 2026 CHT-I International Business Innovation Proposal Competition, an international business proposal competition jointly organized by NTU GMBA and Chunghwa Telecom (CHT).
SCSE 2026 marked the 13th edition of Taiwan's premier smart city exhibition, running from March 17 to 20 and attracting delegates from 53 countries and 174 cities, along with over 3,000 international business leaders. This year's theme, "Digital and Green Transformation," focused on integrating artificial intelligence (AI), digital infrastructure, and sustainable development to build smarter, more efficient, and environmentally friendly cities.
The field visit brought together a total of 17 registered teams for the CHT-I 2026 competition, which carries this year's theme of "AI-Powered Business Innovation for Global Markets." The teams were composed of students from a wide range of departments and colleges within NTU, spanning business administration, information technology, engineering, social sciences, and more. This diversity in academic backgrounds and levels is one of the competition's greatest strengths, enabling teams to approach challenges from multiple perspectives.
Throughout the visit, teams were guided and accompanied by managers and mentors from Chunghwa Telecom. Beyond introducing technical knowledge and technology solutions, the mentors shared hands-on industry experience, strategic perspectives on international markets, and CHT's long-term vision in the fields of AI and ICT. Each exhibition zone was explained in detail, helping students understand not only "what the technology is" but also "how it is applied" in real-world business contexts.
On the students' side, the participating teams did not simply absorb knowledge passively but demonstrated remarkable initiative and enthusiasm. Many students actively raised questions, delved deeper into each technology solution, and offered fresh perspectives and creative ideas drawn from their diverse multicultural and multidisciplinary backgrounds. The two-way interaction between students and CHT experts turned the visit into a vibrant, hands-on learning experience that went far beyond a typical field trip. This was a valuable opportunity for the competing teams to gain a deeper understanding of Chunghwa Telecom's international business operations and ICT capabilities, enabling them to develop business innovation proposals that are more grounded in reality and highly feasible.
This field visit stands as one of the signature Industry Field Experience activities of the GMBA program, reflecting its commitment to bridging academia and industry practice while providing students from diverse academic disciplines the opportunity to collaborate and access Taiwan's dynamic technology ecosystem.
