Advocating sustainable development and innovation engagement, ‘SCG Bangkok Business Challenge @ Sasin 2021’ cordially invites undergraduate and postgraduate student teams in all disciplines (business and non-business) from your institution to submit a business plan that is proactive in sustainable development and innovation.  Your participation in our global intercollegiate startup competition should contribute to strengthening your institution’s reputation and accreditation credentials further.

 

Held annually since 2002, originally as the Bangkok Business Challenge, the ‘SCG Bangkok Business Challenge @ Sasin’ competition has been co-hosted since mid-2017 by Siam Cement Group (SCG), a leading business conglomerate in the ASEAN region, and Sasin School of Management (Sasin Graduate Institute of Business Administration of Chulalongkorn University) – the first AACSB and EQUIS accredited business school in Thailand, a co-founder of AAPBS (Association of Asia-Pacific Business Schools) and a GBSN member (Global Business School Network).  In 2008, this competition was launched globally, becoming Thailand’s first (and only) global intercollegiate startup competition, attracting a record 208 teams representing 83 institutions from 24 countries/regions across 6 continents as first-round participants last year.  Some past entries include teams from AIM – Philippines; Alakhawayn University – Morocco; ALBA Graduate Business School – Greece; Auckland University of Technology – New Zealand; Cambridge Judge Business School, UK; Chinese University of Hong Kong; Cornell University – USA; EMLYON Business School – France; ESSEC – France; Fudan University – China; Griffith University – Australia; IAE Business School – Universidad Austral – Argentina; IE Business School – Spain; Indian School of Business – India; INSEAD – France; Keio University – Japan; Kellogg School of Management – USA; Mannheim Business School – Germany; Nanyang Technological University – Singapore; National University of Singapore – Singapore; Peking University – China; Prasetiya Mulya Business School – Indonesia; Putra Business School – Malaysia; Reykjavík University – Iceland; SP Jain Institute of Management and Research, India; Tsinghua University – China; University of Chicago – USA; WHU – Otto Beisheim School of Management – Germany; etc.  A full list of past entries is archived on our website: http://bbc.sasin.edu/.

NEST, Prasetiya Mulya Business School, Indonesia; Hygia Sanitation, Sasin School of Management, Thailand; Swachh Toilets, SP Jain Institute of Management and Research, India; H24U Innova, Cambridge Judge Business School, University of Cambridge, UK; Amplify Infra, Indian School of Business, India; and Mycobuild, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore won HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn’s Sustainability Award in 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, and 2020 respectively.

 

Setting a new precedent in the standard of global business plan competitions, the objectives of the competition are to encourage scalable new venture creation by instilling entrepreneurial spirit into graduates’ minds and planting the seeds of entrepreneurship and innovation within institutions of higher learning; create commercial value for R&D efforts, especially those originating from university research centers; provide an international platform in which representatives from all programs across the globe compete, learn from each other and foster a stronger network; provide a business matching platform for startups, potential partners and investors; and bring sustainability concerns to a mainstream commercial venture.

For the ‘SCG Bangkok Business Challenge @ Sasin 2021’ competition, student teams from throughout the world are being invited to compete for prizes totaling over USD 49,000 in cash, including the grand winner receiving HM the King of Thailand’s Award and the winner of  HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn’s Sustainability Award.

 

All full-time and part-time students in any disciplines enrolled in the 2020 academic year are eligible to participate.
