The International Biz Challenge 2012 was held in Guazhou, Gansu from May 22nd to May 25th, with 500 team members from twenty top business schools all over the Chinese circle participating. The racing track was 112km long, cutting through a variety of complex terrain, such as the Gobi Desert, yardangs, saline lands and hills. The first day was for experiencing, without the achievement taken into account; the other three days were for competition, with the record of the sixth member of each team taken into account. After a four-day trek through the Gobi Desert, NTU won the third prize in the group competition, being the best-ranked public schools among Mainland China and Taiwan.
The result of the group competition was that CEIBS (China Europe International Business School) won the first prize with the record 10 hours and 21 minutes, while Yangtze University won the second with 11 hours and 1 minute, and NTU won the third with 11 hours and 20 minutes. There was a rule that the record of a team with female team members could have a 1 hour minus, so CEIBS and Yangtze University, both with female members, got better results thanks to the rule, while NTU with male members only did not get this “bonus”. Not only that, the average age of NTU team was 49.2 years old, being the eldest among the 18 teams.
Another highlight of this competition was “the Sportsmanship Prize” which was voted out by the media reports anonymously. NTU has been winning this prize for three years, which not only shows NTU’s great sportsmanship and amazing endurance, but also serves a sign of good quality of the nation. Especially when in the last 1 hour in the competition, the team members supported each other to cross the finish line, their spirit surely set a great example for this competition.
