Dozens of delegates of the City University of Hong Kong (CUHK)visited NTU in the morning on the 25th and were greeted at the Guan-De Lecture Room by NTU represented by Xie Ming-Hui and Chen Yan-Hao, CEO and Assistant CEO of NTU EMBA, respectively, followed by an introductory film about recent development and a campus tour. Professor Wong Jung, on behalf of CUHK, thanked the NTU for warm reception and wished NTU EMBA a happy 20th anniversary.
In the morning of the 25th, EMBA students, from both Taiwan and Hong Kong, arrived early at the Guan-De Lecture Room to meet new friends, with little regard for the humid, hot weather. The NTU EMBA Student Association commissioned a party of 3 representatives: Wang Yue-Ming, Huang Wen-Ling, and Wang Chun-Jian. The NTU Alumni Association had sent its secretary-general, Jin Yu-Xin, to jointly welcome the friends from CUHK.
Xie Ming-Hui first welcomed the guests from CUHK on behalf of NTU EMBA. As this year is the 20th anniversary of NTU EMBA, Xie mentioned particularly about her expectation for NTU EMBA in her welcome speech. According to Xie, as many excellent managers come to NTU EMBA, it is in a position to make good use of this powerful force not only for running businesses, but also for serving our society. Particularly, the more capable people should assume greater responsibilities. Already there are many NGOs are serving our society already, “but we can do a better job and do it smarter,” Xie said with high confidence.
Xie also introduced to the CUHK students about the development of NTU EMBA programs. In addition to professional knowledge advancement, the program planning in recent years has expanded to the development of physical and mind developments for students to balance their growth in knowledge with growth in fitness and mind. In the same time, innovative entrepreneurship is also a focal point, and conveying shareholder value and social value has been especially added to the programs.
Professor Wong responded to Xie’s mentioning of social responsibilities with exaltation. EMBA values not only about professionalism, but also advocating social welfare. “It is a medium through which we apply our truth capacity onto our society,” said Wong. In terms of development, the EMBAs of the two university share the same value and representation.
In response to Xie’s mentioning of physical and mind development, Chen Yan-Hao, Assistant Executive, NTU EMBA, also a sport enthusiast, introduced to CUHK about NTU EMBA’s heritage in sports, where 29 sport clubs actively engage in softball games, Sun-Moon Lake Swim, and All-Formosa (環台) Cycling; all students can participate.
In the meeting, the leader of CUHK EMBA, Lei Wai-Dong, brought up questions from his fellow students, particularly about how NTU EMBA won the title of Best Team Award, 5 consecutive years in a role, in the Road of Xuanzang Business Schools Gobi Challenge.
Chen, who had personally taken part multiple times in Gobi Challenge, answered humorously yet affirmatively: “I’m not quite sure the reason why; I suppose that the way we behaved nothing like the other universities.” He believed that NTU EMBA takes on the Gobi Challenge primarily for confronting the challenge instead of winning the challenge. The Challenge is about learning and practicing teamwork and enjoy the Challenge as a journey. Chen analyzed, perhaps the primary reason that NTU receives the best team award over these years is that we focus on enjoying the process more than on winning the contest.
At the end of the meeting, NTU and CUHK exchanged banners and souvenirs as memory for this visit. During their visit, it happened to be the 20th anniversary of NTU EMBA, and the EMBA Office was working on a series of celebrations. Professor Wong Jung and all the student delegates recorded their congratulations on a short video clip for wishing NTU EMBA a happy anniversary.
After the meeting, NTU EMBA arranged a campus tour for the CUHK delegates to experience NTU sceneries and culture. They were introduced to the Fu Bell, the famous 21-sounding in NTU. They also visited the University History Hall to appreciate numerous memorabilia and learn about NTU’s historic progress and development. Finally, to draw a perfect period to their visit, the CUHK delegates took group photos in front of front gate of NTU, now a municipal monument.
