Formerly the Taihoku Empire University established in 1928 and the only school that offered general higher education in Taiwan before WWII era, NTU is now the largest general university in Taiwan with 11 colleges, 3 professional institutes, 54 departments, 109 graduate programs, and more than 30 national- or university-level dedicated research centers. We now have more than 33,000 students; about 18,000 in undergraduate study and 15,000 in graduate study, at a ratio close to 1 to 1. We have now successfully transformed into a research oriented university. With its liberal ambience and dialectical practice, NTU is the most influential school in Taiwan that has produced many top scholars, national leaders, and enterprise executives.
