Celebrating its 20th anniversary, NTU EMBA has the highest concentration of entrepreneurs and owners of listed companies in its student profile, that of whose students represent more than half of total value of businesses in Taiwan, celebrated its 20th anniversary with a forum on Social Innovation on May 21 that emphasized that enterprises should take the initiatives in innovation as a business model and thus help to solve problems in the society. NTU wishes to be the boundary crossing, aggregating, fulfilling, and innovative pioneer to help businesses to do whatever they prefer to do, said Xie Ming-Hui, CEO, NTU EMBA, that they may help the society while realizing profit. The Forum on the 21th had the honors to have Fong Yen, who is the former Councilor of the Executive Yuan and constantly concerns about the development of social enterprise; Mr. Zheng Ping, CEO of the Delta Electronics, Mr. Zhou Jun-Ji, President of Sin Yi Realty Inc., and Lin Yi-Han, co-founder and CEO of Social Enterprise Insights that is the representative of new-generation innovative social enterprise, who were dedicated to creating win-win situation for enterprises and the society; and Wu De-Fong, Deputy Chairman, PwC Taiwan, who serves to protect enterprise stakeholders’ values, to participate in the forum discussion.  

 

Former Councilor Fong Yen had studied the pattern of Taiwanese businesses development and the status quo of social enterprise development in Taiwan, and shared stories of social enterprises like Little Town Culture Innovation and Happy Fruits that deliver the core spirit of social enterprises. “The key point in social innovation is combining the spirit of entrepreneurs and the mission and passion of philanthropists to deal with society issues on a greater scale,” said Fong Yen. “Business sustainable administration must fulfill social responsibility from core values,” said Zheng Ping, CEO of the Delta Electronics. The company is aware of climate change issues and believes that energy conservation is a way to solve the issues rapidly and effectively, and thus has already begun since 1983 production of switching power supply units. Now the company’s power supply products have reached more than 90% of efficiency.

 

“Social innovation is a success that makes everybody happy,” said Zhou Jun-Ji, President of Sin Yi Realty Inc. With business ethics as the subject, build up adequate relations with all stakeholders, and fulfill social enterprise responsibility. Lin Yi-Han, co-founder and CEO of Social Enterprise Insights, explained, as a youngster participating in social enterprise and with the eyes of youngsters, what a social enterprise is. Lin talked about the new trend of young entrepreneurs in internet share economy. In Lin’s mind, the goal is “social innovation becomes the DNA in everyone.”

 

Wu De-Fong, Deputy Chairman, PwC Taiwan, began his lecture with a video about trust. Trust is the foundation of all businesses. We also quoted on Benjamin Franklin that “you may regain your foothold soon if you should fall, but you can never regain trust once you lose it.” Wu believes that only by responding to the innovation that stakeholders’ need and care about can you win the trust from customers and other stakeholders and drive your growth and pursue sustainability.

 

According to Xie Ming-Hui, CEO, NTU EMBA, NTU as a value leader that constantly innovates must adopt diversified values, and that has been the spirit of NTU in its education business. With its responsibility of guiding Chinese EMBAs to progress, NTU EMBA firmly believes that the fulfillment of social innovation must concurrently satisfy shareholders’ interest and social responsibility, management capacity and entrepreneurship, intellectual quality and the nurturing of body, mind, and soul. These diversified values must be combined in the development of a platform for the elites.

  

In the future NTU EMBA shall continue with seeking for breakthrough and embracing diversified values and innovative learning. Therefore, social innovation is not a short-term task but to help businesses with their sustainable operations and to inject new energy and momentum into Taiwanese society.
